Why are there no Jewish weddings between pesach and shavuot?

Q: Does no one like me anymore? Why have I not been invited to any Jewish wedding for the next month?

A: Everyone like you, don’t worry. The reason you haven’t been invited to any weddings is because there aren’t any. During this time period between Pesach and Shavuot, known as the “The Omer,” Jewish people don’t get married. This is because 24000 students of the great Rabbi Akiva died in a plague during this time of year. The plague came as a punishment because they didn’t respect each other properly. As a sign of mourning for their death, we refrain from getting married, listening to music, and taking haircuts.

The lesson we learn from this is how careful we need to be with the honour of another person. This is the time of year to work on our character especially how we treat other people.
