THE IMPORTANCE OF TIME OFF

Many of us (including me) are returning home, after a well-deserved break.

The other day I thought of the following question. Why do we require periods of rest and relaxation? Couldn’t G-d have designed us in a way that we can keep going, maintaining a constant pace without burning out?

The truth is that this can be asked about sleeping as well. Why weren’t we designed to keep going around the clock?

In Jewish wisdom, this is one of the explanations. Sleep allows us to turn off so that we can reset, recharge, and refocus. If we would continuously push forward without pause, we will stagnate, repeating the same patterns and habits without significant growth or improvement. Sleep allows us to let go of yesterday so that today we can shift into something new and better.

Similarly, time off gives an opportunity to reflect and rejuvenate. It allows us to reassess our values and let go of those things holding back growth and progress.

However, sleep and time off are both important but must come to an end. Just as excessive sleep leads to unproductivity, too much time off can have similar consequences.

As we approach BINA 2025 – Term, I am excited to embrace this concept. In 2025, we aim to take BINA to the next level (stay tuned). And I encourage you to join me – upgrade your commitment to learning, engage more deeply, and join us more frequently.

I hope to see you at some of the learning opportunities.
