Buckle Your Own Seatbelt First

A few hours ago I returned home from an overseas trip. In the last three and a half weeks I flew on a number of planes with different airlines. At the beginning of each trip the safety rules are explained by the one in charge. By now I think I can recite this announcement by heart.

One of the instructions always given is how to operate oxygen masks that will fall down in the unlikely event of a drop of cabin pressure. This announcement always concludes like this: "If you are travelling with children always make sure you secure your mask before assisting others."

Whenever I hear this I am reminded of a lesson that can be learned from this detail. Life is a journey, and throughout its many experiences we do lots of things to care for ourselves and others.

However, if we really want to care for others we need to ensure that we are strong and well cared for ourselves. If we want to nurture and raise children with the necessary strength and dedication we must nurture our own growth. If we want to love and respect our spouses we must love and respect ourselves. We should pay attention yo our own growth both physically and spiritually.

Have a safe journey always growing and succeeding through the journey of life.
